The Viola da Terra (literally “Guitar of the Land”) is a distinctive plucked string instrument from the Azores, Portugal. Revered for its shimmering tone and ornate craftsmanship, this folk guitar is a vital part of Azorean cultural heritage, often used to accompany traditional music, poetry, and religious festivities.

  • Strings: 12 strings arranged in 5 courses, combining unison and octave pairs/trios for a rich, chorus-like effect.
  • Tuning: A-D-G-B-E. Other common tunings include C–G–C–E–G or variations, depending on regional style and player preference.
  • Sound: Bright, resonant, and full of character—ideal for melodic lines and rhythmic accompaniment.

This used one comes from the collection of Mickie Zekley and remains in excellent condition.
