This special djembe was made in Mali where the djembe tradition started and is still going strong. It has a double cradle and is made of Lenke wood (aka Lingue, Afzelia africana) an excellent dense hardwood with rich tonal qualities.
It is crafted by hand with chisels and gouges. The djembe making process is basically three-fold: First, the perfect trees are selected from the countryside. Next, the logs are delivered to the shell carvers who sculpt them into the djembe shape, which is traditional to Mali. Then, they are transported to a workshop where they are sanded, oiled, the designs carved, and the drums assembled.

This whistle has a beautiful, warm tone and is very responsive. I have used a variety of whistles (including other Kerry whistles), and this one is my favorite to play. While recording my latest album, I needed a whistle in this key pretty quickly, and Lark in the Morning had this delivered to me within a few days. I highly recommend this instrument, and Lark in the Morning is a fantastic place to purchase from with excellent customer service.

I already play a mountain lap dulcimer, but this one gives the instrument a whole different dimension to playing. Really beautiful craftsmanship. Thus isn’t a toy, but a lovely wooden instrument. Very easy to play!

Multifacsited approach to something fun to do!

Plays like a dream. I have MS and am no longer able to play guitar, but this uke let's me play songs again and sing. I had no idea how much I'd missed having music in my body. Thanks, Lark!

I love these little hand carved wood whistles from Brazil
